How to Apply for Food Stamps in Washington
If you live in Washington state and need help buying food, you can apply for food stamps, also known as Basic Food. Here's how to apply:
1. Check your eligibility: You may be eligible for food stamps if your income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. You can check your eligibility online at the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) website.
2. Gather the necessary documentation: You will need to provide proof of identity, income, expenses, and citizenship or immigration status. This may include your ID, pay stubs, rent or mortgage statements, utility bills, and immigration documents.
3. Apply online: You can apply for food stamps online at the Washington Connection website. Create an account and fill out the application. You will need to provide personal information, income information, and information about your household.
4. Submit your application: After completing your application, submit it online. You may also be required to complete an interview with a DSHS representative.
5. Wait for a decision: After submitting your application, you will receive a letter from DSHS informing you of their decision. If you are approved, you will receive an EBT card, which works like a debit card and can be used to purchase food at participating retailers.
If you have any questions or need help with your application, you can contact the DSHS Customer Service Contact Center at 1-877-501-2233.
