How to Adjust Forearm Crutches

From freem

Adjusting forearm crutches is important to ensure that they fit properly and are comfortable to use. Here are the steps to adjust forearm crutches:

1. Adjust the height: Stand up straight with your arms relaxed at your sides. The top of the crutches should be about 1-2 inches below your armpits. Adjust the height by loosening the collar that holds the crutch in place, moving the crutch up or down to the desired height, and tightening the collar again.

2. Adjust the hand grip: The hand grip should be at the same level as your hip joint. Adjust the hand grip by loosening the screw or nut that holds the grip in place, sliding the grip up or down to the desired height, and tightening the screw or nut again.

3. Adjust the cuff: The cuff should fit snugly around your forearm, just below the elbow. Adjust the cuff by loosening the screw or nut that holds the cuff in place, sliding the cuff up or down to the desired height, and tightening the screw or nut again.

4. Check the fit: Once you've adjusted the crutches, test the fit by standing up straight with your hands on the hand grips. Your elbows should be slightly bent (about 20-30 degrees) and your weight should be evenly distributed between your feet and the crutches. Walk a few steps to make sure the crutches feel comfortable and stable.

5. Make further adjustments if necessary: If the crutches still don't feel comfortable, make further adjustments to the height, hand grip, or cuff until you find the right fit.

Remember to consult with a healthcare professional or a physical therapist if you are unsure about how to adjust your forearm crutches properly.
