How to Add a Fabric Ruffle to the Hemline of Your Miniskirt

From freem

Adding a fabric ruffle to the hemline of your miniskirt is a great way to give it some extra flair and personality. Here are the steps to follow:

Materials: - Fabric of your choice - Scissors - Sewing machine or needle and thread - Measuring tape or ruler - Pins

Steps:

1. Measure the circumference of the hemline of your miniskirt. This will determine how much fabric you will need for your ruffle.

2. Cut a strip of fabric that is 2-3 times the length of the circumference of your hemline, depending on how full you want your ruffle to be. The width of the strip should be twice the desired width of your ruffle, plus seam allowances.

3. Hem the top edge of your fabric strip by folding it over twice and sewing it down with a straight stitch.

4. Use a basting stitch (long, loose stitches) along the bottom edge of the fabric strip. Make sure to leave long tails at each end.

5. Gather the fabric strip by pulling on the tails of the basting stitch. Adjust the gathering until it matches the circumference of your hemline.

6. Pin the gathered fabric strip to the hemline of your miniskirt, right sides together. Make sure the raw edges of the fabric strip align with the raw edge of the hemline.

7. Sew the fabric strip to the hemline using a straight stitch, removing the pins as you go.

8. Remove the basting stitches and press the seam towards the bottom of the skirt.

9. Hem the bottom edge of the ruffle by folding it over twice and sewing it down with a straight stitch.

And there you have it, a beautiful ruffled hemline for your miniskirt!
