How to Add a Custom Search Engine to Firefox's Search Bar (Windows Version)

From freem

Adding a custom search engine to Firefox's search bar is a great way to quickly search your favorite websites or search engines without having to navigate to their homepage first. Here are the steps to add a custom search engine to Firefox's search bar on Windows:

1. Open Firefox and navigate to the website that you want to add as a custom search engine.

2. Right-click on the search bar on the website and select "Add a Keyword for this Search" from the context menu.

3. In the "Add Bookmark" dialog box that appears, give the bookmark a name and choose a folder to save it in (you can choose the Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar, or any other folder).

4. In the "Keyword" field, enter a short keyword that you'll use to trigger the search engine from Firefox's search bar (e.g. "g" for Google, "y" for YouTube, etc.). Make sure the keyword is easy to remember and doesn't conflict with any existing keywords in Firefox.

5. Click the "Save" button to save the bookmark.

6. Open the Firefox search bar by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the browser.

7. Click the three dots icon to the right of the search bar and select "Add Search Engine" from the context menu.

8. In the "Add Search Engine" dialog box that appears, enter the following information:

- Name: Enter a name for the search engine (e.g. "Google", "YouTube", etc.). - Keyword: Enter the keyword you chose in step 4. - URL with %s in place of query: Enter the URL of the search results page for the website, replacing the search query with "%s". For example, if you added Google as a custom search engine and your keyword was "g", the URL would be: https://www.google.com/search?q=%s.

9. Click the "Add" button to add the search engine to Firefox's search bar.

10. To use the custom search engine, simply type the keyword followed by your search query in Firefox's search bar. For example, if you added Google as a custom search engine with the keyword "g", you would type "g [your search query]" to search Google from Firefox's search bar.

That's it! You can repeat these steps to add as many custom search engines as you like to Firefox's search bar.
