How to Add a Liner to Knitted or Crocheted Bags
Adding a liner to a knitted or crocheted bag is a great way to add structure and durability to your project, as well as protect the contents of the bag. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to add a liner to your knitted or crocheted bag:
Materials: - Knitted or crocheted bag - Fabric for lining (cotton or polyester blend) - Sewing machine or needle and thread - Scissors - Pins - Iron
Instructions:
1. Measure the inside of your bag to determine the size of the lining. Cut your fabric to size, leaving an extra 1 inch (2.5 cm) on all sides.
2. If your fabric has a right side and a wrong side, fold the fabric in half with the right sides facing each other. Pin the sides together and sew a 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) seam allowance.
3. Press the seams open with an iron.
4. With the right side of the fabric facing out, insert the lining into the knitted or crocheted bag. Pin the top edges of the bag and lining together, matching them as closely as possible.
5. Sew the top edges of the bag and lining together using a sewing machine or by hand with a needle and thread. Be careful to only sew through the top edges and not through the sides of the bag.
6. Trim any excess fabric from the top edge of the lining.
7. Fold the top edge of the lining down over the top edge of the bag, tucking the raw edge under. Pin in place.
8. Hand-stitch the lining to the inside of the bag using a needle and thread. Be careful to only sew through the lining and not through to the outside of the bag.
9. If desired, you can also sew the bottom edges of the lining to the bottom of the bag for added stability.
And that's it! Your knitted or crocheted bag now has a durable and stylish lining that will protect your belongings and keep the bag's shape intact.
