How to Adjust Car Headlights

Adjusting car headlights is an important task that ensures that you can see the road clearly while driving at night, and also helps prevent blinding other drivers on the road. Here are the steps to adjust car headlights:

1. Park the car on a level surface: Find a flat and level surface where you can park your car. The surface should be at least 25 feet away from a flat wall or garage door. Make sure that the car is facing the wall directly and that it is perpendicular to the surface.

2. Check the position of the headlights: Check the position of the headlights by examining their alignment with the ground. If they are not level, use a screwdriver to adjust the screws on the headlight assembly until they are level.

3. Measure the distance between the headlights and the wall: Use a measuring tape to measure the distance between the center of the headlight and the ground. Mark this point on the wall using masking tape.

4. Adjust the horizontal aim of the headlights: Adjust the horizontal aim of the headlights by turning the horizontal adjustment screw, which is usually located next to the headlight assembly. Turn the screw clockwise to adjust the headlights to the right and counterclockwise to adjust them to the left. Make sure that the beams of both headlights are aligned with the marks on the wall.

5. Adjust the vertical aim of the headlights: Adjust the vertical aim of the headlights by turning the vertical adjustment screw, which is usually located above or below the headlight assembly. Turn the screw clockwise to raise the beams and counterclockwise to lower them. The beams of the headlights should be at or below the mark on the wall.

6. Test the headlights: Test the headlights by turning them on and checking their alignment on the wall. Make sure that the beams of both headlights are aligned with the marks on the wall.

7. Repeat the process for the other headlight: Repeat the process for the other headlight to ensure that both headlights are properly adjusted.
