2. Choose the right oil: Make sure you choose the right type of oil for your car, based on the manufacturer's recommendations. You can find this information on the oil container label.

3. Park your car on a level surface: Make sure your car is parked on a level surface to ensure accurate oil level readings.

4. Open the hood: Release the hood latch and prop the hood open.

5. Locate the oil dipstick: The oil dipstick is usually located near the front of the engine block. It has a yellow handle and is labeled "Engine Oil."

6. Check the oil level: Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean with a cloth, and reinsert it. Wait a few seconds, then pull it out again and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "min" and "max" marks on the dipstick.
