=== User: Co bys navrhl jako řešení pro tuto otázku? === Co bys navrhl jako řešení pro tuto otázku? automatic place name suggestions for todays Czechia (-1918) Automatic place name suggestions. This has its official guideline at: * https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Location_Fields ''' https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Location_Fields#Automatic_Place_Name_Suggestions Official guideline tells: "You do not need to accept any of the place name suggestions." OK, but what to do if all automatic place name suggestions for certain country for certain period are not correct? ''' https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Location_Fields#Correcting_place_name_suggestions One should suggest an improvement at FamilySearch's Place Research database https://familysearch.org/research/places/ Lets taken a look at two example of well known cities Praha and Brno for pre-1918, as examples. * Praha, Čechy, Rakousko (1620-1918) Brno has two options! * Brno, Morava, Rakousko (1620-1918) * Brno, Morava, Rakousko (-1918) Whole most of Czech places are categorized just with "(-1918)". * ..., Čechy, Rakousko (-1918) * ..., Morava, Rakousko (-1918) Fist of all, that does not give idea what era is it all about. Second, it is incorrect. How to correct that for the whole country for all records and for -1918 automatic suggestions? I doubt if it will be possible to change that for all records in FamilySearch. I presume that they have it like this on FamilySearch to make it simple. Everything for 16th-19th century is inside one item. Unfortunately it seems to be oversimplification and moreover it is not correct. Therefore it is understandable, that users do not follow WikiTree guidelines properly, when "automatic place name suggestions" are misleading them. It should be classified like this: * Habsburská monarchie (1526-1804) * Rakouské císařství (1804-1867) * Rakousko-Uhersko (1867-1918) So for our example of Praha: * Praha, Čechy, Habsburská monarchie (1526-1804) * Praha, Čechy, Rakouské císařství (1804-1867) * Praha, Čechy, Rakousko-Uhersko (1867-1918) For our example of Brno: * Brno, Morava, Habsburská monarchie (1526-1804) * Brno, Morava, Rakouské císařství (1804-1867) * Brno, Morava, Rakousko-Uhersko (1867-1918) There might be subcategories in between, but it will be next level issue. Those three countries can not be simplified just to "Rakousko". So every 17th, 18th, and 19th biography that used automatic place name suggestions is affected with this error and it will need correction. I did not research possibilities for pre-1526 classification of locations. The hypothetic option would be also to use: * Země Koruny české (1348-1918) ''' České království (1198–1918) ''' Moravské markrabství (1182–1918) But this does not seem an option for me. This is not used by WikiTree users, this is not used by FamilySearch, etc. Hypothetically it could be used for 15th century, 14th century, 13th century, etc. But it could mislead users: "Why to use Moravské markrabství for example for year 1700 and why not to use Moravské markrabství for year 1917?" I used Czech names in this post, because it is crucial for this post. Everything is also easily accesible on Wikipedia in both language. Czech/English translation is easy and unambiguous: * Rakousko = Austria * Habsburská monarchie = Habsburg monarchy * Rakouské císařství = Austrian Empire * Rakousko-Uhersko = Austria-Hungary * Země Koruny české = Lands of the Bohemian Crown * České království = Kingdom of Bohemia * Moravské markrabství = Margraviate of Moravia Any suggestions for possible improvements?
